Mrs. Gwen C. Brown, age 86, of The Rock, GA, died Monday, July 14, 2025, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Herb Flanders will officiate, and interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown was born in Taylor County, GA, on March 24, 1939, to the late Benjamin Otis Curry and the late Mildred Spillers Curry. She was a hairdresser, and for 19 years she owned and operated El Matador/Salon Elegante with her husband, Wesley. She later worked in the bookkeeping department of West Central Georgia Bank for 9 1/2 years, and as a secretary at Upson-Lee Primary School and as a bookkeeper at the Central Office of the Thomaston-Upson School System for a total of 11 1/2 years. She was an excellent cook, and she enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church of Thomaston.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Curry Fallin, a brother, Albert Curry, and a beloved cousin, Marilyn Dickerson. She is survived by her husband, Wesley Brown of The Rock; a daughter, Lynn (Bill) Shaver and a son, Johnny (Lachelle) Brown, both of The Rock; seven grandchildren: Brandy S. (Clint) Chastain of Thomaston; Bryan (Shanan) Shaver of Somerset, KY; Adam (Lisa) Bray of St. Louis, MO; Claire (Seth) Huckaby of The Rock; Jared (Lauren) Brown of Charlotte, NC: Jacob (Danielle) Brown of Greenville, SC; and Jonathan (Emma) Brown of Thomaston; fourteen great grandchildren: Hudson Chastain, Hadley Chastain, Harper Chastain, Brylie Shaver, Brynlie Shaver; Blakely Shaver, Boyd Shaver, Max Bray, Luke Bray, Beaudie Huckaby; Maisie Huckaby, Olivia Brown, Weston Brown, and Lanier Brown.
