Nancy Virginia Steel Kimball, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on June 29, 2025 at the age of 91. Born in Richmond, Virginia in 1933 to Penelope McLeish and Douglas McLeod Steel of Edinburgh, Scotland, she grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. While attending college in Richmond, Virginia, she met the love of her life. Despite both of their parents' advice that they were too young to marry, Nancy and Bill eloped and were married in 1952. During their marriage, they lived in East Africa, Germany and several states due to Bill's Army career and all while having and raising four children. During Bill's two tours in Vietnam/Thailand, Nancy more than rose to the challenge of running the household and taking care of the children during Bill's absence. Nancy and Bill were married for 52 years when Bill died in December, 2004. Nancy loved her husband, being an Army wife, their children, her Scottish heritage, being from Petersburg, attending Galilee church and her faith, the beach, her dog Sandy and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nancy was also fond of her time as a teacher's aide ("Teacher Nancy") at Virginia Beach Friends School. Preceding her in death was her husband, Lt. Col. William D. Kimball, their son Kevin Douglas Kimball, her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Peter Holland, III. She is survived by her three children, Patty Schombert (Robert), Keith Loren Kimball (Michelle) and Susan Cameron Jenkins (James). She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Nicolette (Michael), Kevin (Catherine), Cameron (Samantha), Megan (Jake), Madison, Caitlin, Carly, Ian, Jennifer (Brendan) and Bridget and six great grandchildren: Carter, Alexandra, Loren, Ethan, Logan and Violet. Nancy is also survived by her nephew Peter Holland, IV (Anne), niece Brucie Parnell (Jimmy), niece Robin Perdue Wadkins (Tom), as well as Bill's cousins, Melinda Roberts (John), Agnew Swynford (Susan) and Amanda Skille. A burial with a graveside funeral service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Windy, Megan, Bay Lake Assisted Living and the nurses and staff at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for the extraordinary kindness and care they provided Nancy in her final years. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Kevin D. Kimball Memorial Scholarship at Virginia Wesleyan University or to a charitable organization of your choice pertaining to the prevention and/or treatment of dementia.

Dearest Nancy, I so enjoyed our visits when I came down to Virginia Beach to visit Jessica and Carter. You were always so welcoming and friendly. I don't think I ever entered your home without your offer of a drink and a chat. You will truly be missed.
