Natalie Holmes Mackintosh
10/31/1929 - 6/6/2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Natalie H. Mackintosh who passed away from Alzheimer's Disease on June 6th.
Born in Mount Vernon NY to Natalie Parpart Holmes and Frank Davis Holmes, Natalie spent her childhood moving around to various states following her father's work as a civil engineer. She graduated high school at 16 and went to the University of Rochester, majoring in Economics. After college she worked in market research at Benton and Boles where she met David Mackintosh, and they were married on May 8, 1954. She stopped working to raise their 3 children, where she put to good use her exceptional warmth and insight. As her children aged, she became active in volunteer activities. She was secretary and then co-president of the Briarcliff League of Women Voters, became the secretary of the non-partisan Briarcliff People's Caucus and was involved in environmental issues and the mapping of local wetlands.
Having become interested in planning and environmental fields, Natalie took courses at Briarcliff College and got a certificate in cartography. Hired first as a contract worker on a wetlands project for the Village of Ossining, Natalie went on to have a full-time,17-year career she loved as an integral part of the village. She spent the last decade as Assistant Village Manager. As a Rotary Club member - initially the only woman - she went on to become treasurer and then the first female president of the Ossining chapter. She remained actively involved after retirement.
Natalie and David loved to travel and made trips to every continent. And yes, that does include Antarctica. In retirement she enjoyed gardening, stitching and solving the daily puzzles in the newspaper. Whether it was their standing lunch date at Squires, Sunday dinners or time with the grandkids, Natalie loved spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, David Mackintosh and her sister Barbara Schnitzer. She leaves behind her 3 children Barbara Mackintosh (Al Walters), William (Bill) Mackintosh (Trish Mackintosh), Virginia Mackintosh (Dan Ruben) and her former daughter-in-law Donna Mackintosh; Her 5 grandchildren Katie Mackintosh, Emily Prince, Megan Prince, David Gatter (Kristen Gatter) and Natalie R. Mackintosh as well as her 2 great granddaughters Elsie Mackintosh and Allison Gatter.
There will be a graveside service at Kensico Cemetery at 11:30 AM on August 2nd followed by lunch at Terra Rustica at 1:00. In lieu of flowers we would ask that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association at Alz.org or 225 N Michigan Ave, Fl 17 Chicago IL, 60607
