Neill Kurtis Gerstbauer , 42, of Bremen unexpectedly passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025. Neill was born September 2, 1982, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He was a graduate of Bremen High School class of 2001. He attended Manchester College and IU Indianapolis until returning to Mishawaka and then Bremen until his death.
Neill was preceded in death by his father, John Gerstbauer. Surviving family include his mother and Stepdad; Robyn Gerstbauer (Steve) Kemp; sister Camille (Brent) Beeson and nieces McKenzie, Tenley, and Aubrey Beeson.
Neill loved reading and immersed himself in all of literature. He was a BMS Stringer for the old Bremen Enquirer at the age of 14. Residents of Bremen looked forward to his life’s quips. He read extensively and proofread other authors’ works for years. He loved his second home at the lake. Loved boating and flyboarding and was a part of the Skibees safety boat team on Webster Lake.
Neill had a great love for family; his nieces were a high point in his life. Loved laughter and the playfulness of children and was always one to be on the floor, laughing and silly at their level. Children loved him, asked after him and he offered uninterrupted time – just for them. Neill’s neighbors knew him as the young man who always had a hello, a wave, a smile and a helping hand. He was the young man with the big heart, warm soul and the most uplifting and generous hugs. He could with a word and a smile change your day. He was “one of those warm souls”. He will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, in Neill’s name would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, July 10, 2025 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. Cremation will follow.
