Nelda Maurine "Moe" Davis Dennison took her last breath but gained her healed body and her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Mom, Moe, Aunt Moe, Second Mom, or Grammy was known and loved by many for various reasons, but mainly for the love she poured out to everyone! Moe was born on August 6, 1942 in Stonega, VA to the late Forrest and Daisy Lambert, the 7 th of 11 children. She was a member of Stonega Calvary Baptist Church.
In 1961, Moe married the love of her life, SFC Arley Davis and became the perfect Army wife. Two children, Keith and Karen and many deployments and army bases became the life for the next 15 years until Arley was called to his heavenly home in 1976.
Moe was the mom, sister, aunt or grammy who always had whatever you needed-----a hug, a laugh, bubbles, a craft project, fingernail clippers, scissors, plyers, you name it- and yes- many of these items were in her purse.
Kids in Stonega, as well as friends of Keith and Karen always knew they had a place to stay, hang out, eat or just visit. As reminded by many, Moe was their "second mom." "She loved us but also made us walk the line and do the right thing. We loved her for that."
Moe worked at Appalachia Elementary School with Special Needs students and drove a bus for 10 years. She was an active member of the Appalachia High Band boosters for 12 years. For 5 additional years beyond the time when Karen was a member of the band, she continued to help the band students. Moe later worked as a Foster Grandparent in the schools. In recent years, she worked for People, Inc. helping with the toddler age kids.
An avid bowler, Moe made many lifelong friendships.
Moe faced many struggles and heartbreaks throughout her life, but with her unwavering faith in Christ, the love and support of her amazing family and friends, and sheer determination----no let's call it what it was- LAMBERT STUBBORNESS--- she was always able to persevere and rise above it.
As much as Moe loved her community; she was always one of the first to offer her help-gathering food, giving a ride or food, or just an encouraging word- she loved her family unconditionally and beyond. Moe babysat many nieces and nephews, sometimes for weeks at a time. When she was able to help out family, she was always one of the first to offer.
Keith and Karen were her pride. Then came Taylor, Brett and Hunter Oh the grandchildren. How she loved these babies. According to Moe, nobody in this world have grandbabies as amazing as hers. Then the great-grandbabies. Talk about PRIDE and JOY!! Just mention one or all of them and you had better be prepared to listen to her brag on Eli, Kaelyn, Madison and Lilllia. These babies became her ALL, and they felt the same about her.
Preceded in death by her husband SFC Arley Davis, Mother Daisy Lambert, Father Forrest Lambert, Sr., brothers Delbert Lambert, Sidney Lambert, Ellis Lambert, and Sister Stella Humbert. Two brother-in- laws, Jack Humbert and Kermit Clark, and two special sister-in- laws, that were more like sisters, Cathy Lambert and Lorraine Lambert.
Surviving is one son, Forrest Keith Davis, Norton, VA, one daughter, Karen Davis Martin (David) Dante, VA; Granddaughters Taylor Davis Vaughn (James) Big Stone Gap, VA, Brett Kimberly Newton Brown (Javontte) Dante, VA; grandson, Specialist Hunter Keith Davis, US Army; Great Grandchildren, Eli Travis Newton, Kaelyn Daisy Brown, Madison Brooke Vaughn, and Lillia Sage Brown.
