With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Nicholas Lee Woodhouse, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend who left this world too soon on August 16, 2025. Born on February 19, 1981, in
Norfolk, Virginia, he was 44 years old at the time of his passing.
Nick is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Andrea, and their seven-year-old son Nolan; his parents, Michael and Lydia Woodhouse; sister Chelsea; brother Ian; Mother-in-law Lily Coelho; Father-in-law Arthur Coelho; and extended family, close-friends, and colleagues.
Nick's educational achievements were plentiful. He was a 1999 graduate of Norfolk Collegiate School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Penn State's Dickinson School of Law, a post-baccalaureate from Harvard University, and a Master's in Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Professionally, Nick was a distinguished attorney, practicing Criminal and Insurance Defense Law with the Protogyrou [& Rigney] Law Firm and later serving as a Personal Injury Attorney with Huffman & Huffman Brothers-in-Law Firm.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nick was a man of many passions. He was a black belt in Aikido, a talented musician who loved playing various instruments from around the world, an accomplished swimmer, and an avid runner. For decades ("before it was trendy") Nick also enjoyed the art of craft beer brewing. Nick was a lifelong member of the Ghent Square Pool.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of Nick's life was his role as a husband and father. Nick was an A+ all around in everything he was and did. He was delighted to protect and provide for his family. He cherished any time he spent with Andi & Nolan, his favorite people in the entire world. Nick was the ultimate Dad. He made sure to instill traditional family values in his son. He role-modeled how to be a gentleman and taught Nolan the core principles of being a good man. He prided himself in teaching Nolan the art of playing Nintendo and to have respect for vintage video gaming.
Nick was also a top-notch prankster, especially when it came to his mother-in-law Lily. Nick's sense of humor was unmatched. He was witty, sly, charming, intellectual, creative, and determined. Nick was a maverick in the truest sense of the word. Along with all the playing around and jokes, Nick took his position of being big brother seriously. He was wildly proud of Ian and what his 'little' brother has become, which Nick had once accredited to their early Nerf gun battles. Nick also made sure that Chelsea grew up knowing that he was always her champion for all pursuits and dreams.
Nick loved teaching and playing chess with Nolan. He was self-assured that Nolan was becoming his Mini-Me. Nick loved family holidays as it was his opportunity to show off his culinary skills. He had an unspeakable bond with Andi that showed with his actions. Nick was Andi's person. Evenings at home were Nick's most cherished times. Saturday date nights with Andi were a staple for Nick just as much as his clowning-around time with Nolan.
Nick was someone who didn't aim or settle for second place. He was tall and handsome and let all his attributes speak for themselves. Nick stayed loyal to himself and to his friends. A true partner-in-crime. Nick brought lightness and fun to any gathering. He was deeply loved by his life-long Norfolk friends and family.
Nick's Celebration of Life will be held on August 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at HD Oliver Funeral Apts. on Colonial Avenue,
Norfolk, VA.
