Norma Joann (Votapka) Anderson, 95, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Oberlin, KS. Norma was born on May 19, 1930, to Guy and Helen (Vermillion) Votapka on the family farm north of Oberlin.
Norma was raised near Oberlin and graduated from DCHS in 1948. After graduation Norma spent 2 years at Emporia State where she earned a lifetime teaching certificate. She returned to Oberlin to teach in the junior high department.
On May 24, 1952, she married Gordon Eugene Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin. They made their home on farms in Rawlins County most of their married life and were blessed with three children. Gordon and Norma moved to Oberlin in 2000.
Norma was a member of the Herndon Covenant Church where she served on the church board, taught Sunday School and played the organ for many years. Even though Norma wasn't of Swedish heritage she quickly adopted some of the traditional recipes that Gordon loved. She learned to make Ost Kaka from her mother-in-law and was always happy to make it for her family and the church's annual Swedish Smorgasbord. She was also a member of the Rawlins Co. Extension Council, as well as a 4-H leader for several projects, Norma loved to travel, visiting family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, and restoring antique wooden furniture with Gordon.
Norma is survived by daughter, Carol Fink and husband, Robert, Wamego; son, Lynn Anderson and partner Gary, Austin, TX; daughter in-law Gayle Carlson and husband Vince; and sister in-law Gertrude (Anderson) Meyers. Five grandchildren, Jason Anderson, Clay Anderson (Jennie), Kendra Pelton (Dustin). Austin Fink, (Emilie), Ashley Skinner (Beau). Eleven great-grandchildren, Sean Anderson; Cowen, Grant and Sadie Anderson; Addy and Brody Pelton; Corbin, Canaan and Conrad Fink; Taos and Ty Skinner.
Norma was proceeded in death by her parents, parents-in-law and one son Dennis. Two sisters, Faye Meitl, Mary Louise (in infancy), and four brothers, Howard, Charles, Dale and Neil Votapka.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025 at 11:00AM at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made out to Herndon Covenant Church. Condolences can be left at www.plumergobber.com.
