PALMYRA – Norma Fletcher, 88, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at her home on Lang Hill Road in Palmyra, Maine, surrounded by the love of her family.
Norma was born on September 13, 1936, in Detroit, Maine, the beloved daughter of Stanley and Lucy (Norris) Gerry. She was raised in Plymouth, Maine, and graduated as the salutatorian of the Newport High School Class of 1954-a reflection of her intelligence, determination, and strong work ethic from a young age.
She married the love of her life, George Fletcher, on June 2, 1957. Together they built a life rooted in family, farming, and faith in hard work. Norma first worked at Charrette's Diner in Newport, known for her warm presence and dedication. Later, she joined George on the family farm, a partnership that spanned decades and defined much of her life.
Norma was a woman of deep kindness and unwavering love. She found joy in the simple things-planting flowers, cheering for the Red Sox, cooking hearty meals, and caring for her home. She was especially known for her homemade biscuits, which she served with love to anyone who walked through her kitchen. Christmas was her favorite time of year, a season that matched her generous spirit, and she never missed a country song on the radio.
She is survived by her devoted children and their families: George Fletcher Jr. and Debra Fletcher of Palmyra; Nancy and Don Prescott of Corinna; Betty and Gary Lincoln of Palmyra; and James Fletcher, also of Palmyra. She leaves behind many grandchildren Susan Fletcher and Derick Thompson of Winslow, Maddy Fletcher and Cody McGibney of East Newport, Teile and Shawn Graves of The United State Air Force in Canada, Jake Prescott of New Hampshire, Gary Lincoln Jr. of St. Petersburg Florida, Taylor and Sharon Lincoln of The United States Air Force in Richmond Virginia, Nick and Alyse Lincoln of Newport, Gavin Fletcher of Palmyra, and Andrew Fletcher of Exeter. She leaves behind many Great Grandchildren, Layla Thompson, Megan McGibney, Beckett McGibney, Ashton Graves, Landon Graves, Jordan Lincoln, Eli Lincoln, Paisley Lincoln, Parker Lincoln, and Bennett Lincoln.
Norma is also survived by her siblings Althea Tibbetts of Levant, Janet and Walter Philbrick, and Barbara Fletcher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, George Fletcher Sr., her parents Stanley and Lucy Gerry, and many dear siblings: Geneva Basford, Clair Gerry, Lawrence Gerry, Lemont Gerry, Elaine Colbath, and Carl Gerry. Also predeceasing her were in-laws Ivan Fletcher Jr., Barbara Smith, Harold Fletcher, Shirley Bryson, and Robert Fletcher.
Norma's life was defined by her fierce devotion to her family, her strength, and her heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the quiet grace of a life well lived.
