Norma Kindstrom Obituary

Oregon - Norma Jewell Kindstrom – It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, Norma Jewell Kindstrom on July 11, 2025.

Norma was born on April 28, 1939, in Waterman, IL, the daughter of Carl and Eva (Crooke) Taylor. Norma was raised in DeKalb, IL and attended DeKalb High School. On August 27, 1966, Norma married George A. Kindstrom in Kirkland, IL and enjoyed 30 years of marriage together. They raised three children in Rockford, IL, until 1989, when they moved to Wisconsin. Norma will be remembered most for her PINK hair, her huge smile, her infectious laugh, and her insistence on giving everyone she loved the middle name of ‘Sue’ – qualities that truly made her the BEST MOM EVER. In her younger years, she loved to cook and bake, sharing her goodies at craft fairs and always making special desserts for birthdays and cherished friends. Norma and George enjoyed NASCAR racing and trips to Florida to the Daytona races. She really enjoyed Key West – a place she visited often. Norma has always been a HUGE sports fan and loved every sport. She enjoyed playing dominoes, hand and foot with family and friends and loved playing Jenga with the grandkids. Those times made her so happy. (Just don’t forget to “Pay Attention” or she would remind you.) Visiting and spending time with friends and family was what she enjoyed and loved the most, creating countless unforgettable memories. She shared that her favorite job was at Automatic Electric in Genoa, IL where she made telephone parts for the war. After that, Norma started working for Illinois Bell, in Rockford, IL, first as a switchboard operator, then for AT&T as a long-distance operator. She relocated the family to Cottage Grove, WI in 1989, where she worked at the Madison office and finally retired with 30 years of service on June 1, 1999.

Norma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Alfred Kindstrom, special friend, John Neath, brother Fred Barnes, sisters Lela Kunce and Patricia Collin, and granddaughter Lauren Bailey Wiese.

Norma's loving memory lives on through her children: Georgia Kindstrom (Patrick Mitchell), Walt Kindstrom (Wendi Stephens), and Marion Tucker (Chris). Norma also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Danielle Wiese and Erin Finnerty, Hannah and Gunnar Kindstrom, Jocelyn and John Jr. Schuepbach, Alex (Emily) Tucker, Jackson Tucker and so many more friends she considered family.

A special thank you to the doctors and amazing nursing staff at UW Hospital for taking excellent care of our mom.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 – The visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the service immediately following at 3:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect St., Stoughton, WI 53589 with Reverend Annette Haak officiating. We ask family and friends attending the visitation and service to wear pink in honor of Norma. A Celebration of Life Reception with food and refreshments will follow at Halverson’s, 1965 Barber Dr., Stoughton, WI. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Charter Oak Cemetery on Cherry Valley Road in Kirkland, IL.

The McGraws and Quigley families are hosting a luncheon to follow the graveside service on Thursday July 17, 2025 at Resource Bank (upper level) 414 Main St. Kirkland, IL 60146 (there is an elevator available)
