Norma J. Maxwell, age 89, of Beaverton, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1935, the daughter of Percy and Ruey (Freeman) Blades, in Beaverton. She worked at the Hitching Post in Midland where she was a dedicated employee for many years. On June 7, 1953, Norma married the love of her life, Junior “Jim” Maxwell, in Beaverton. Together, they shared many years filled with love and cherished memories until he preceded her in death in 2016. 

Norma was a devoted and active member of her community, dedicating 60 years as a leader of 4-H in Gladwin and Midland Counties. She was the “Queen” of pies at all 4-H Buyer’s Banquets through Gladwin County 4-H for many years. She had a special affection for sheep and horses and a passion for baking, often sharing her skills and love for the craft with her children and grandchildren. Above all, Norma treasured her time with her children and grandchildren, cherishing countless memories spent together.

She is survived by her sons: Dennis (Melissa) Maxwell and Dave (Vickie) Maxwell; daughter: Carole (Steve) Monaghan; 15 grandchildren: Candy, Christie, Jimmy, Stephanie, Charlie, Jennifer, Carrie, Heidi, Derek, Jessie, Ethan, Bryer, Kaitlynn, Kennedy, and Kerry; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister: Ruth Maxwell; along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Percy and Ruey; husband: Jim; daughter: Diane Hubbel; grandson: Jessie Maxwell; granddaughter: Candy Gehringer; and siblings: Donald Blades, Mary Blades, and Dawn Suave. 

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, in Beaverton. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2024 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, in Beaverton. She will be laid to rest at Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton.
