Northbridge – Normand M. Armstrong, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after aperiod of declining health.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley A. (Labrecque) Armstrong; his daughter, Renee Connor, her husband Rick, and granddaughter Courtney Connor, all of Scottsdale, AZ; two sisters, Fern Houle and Lorraine Bindman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Muriel Massey, Sister Jeannine Armstrong, Loretta Roy, and his brothers Roger, Roland, and Claude Armstrong.
Born in Warren, Ontario, Canada on August 5, 1939, Normand was one of nine children and the youngest son of Gabriel and Blanche (Landry) Armstrong. He moved to the Rockdale section of Northbridge, MA in 1958 before proudly enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Korea. He worked at the former Whitin Machine Works before owning and operating his own business, Ambur Machine Company, for several years. He later worked as a manufacturing consultant for the Korean government, traveling between the U.S. and Korea for approximately 10 years, and finished his career with the Dixie Company.
A dedicated community member, Normand was a proud 65+ year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 365 and member of the 4th Degree. He served in multiple leadership roles in both organizations, including District Deputy, Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator. Normand was instrumental in recruitment and launched the council's Sunday Night Bingo along with many other activities. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Dudley-Gendron Post 414. Throughout the years, Normand was active in the Northbridge Schools' Booster Club and was one of the founding committee members of the Valley Airs Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed golfing, travel and spending time with his family and friends.
Even during his time in memory care, Normand remained devoted to helping others-sweeping floors, setting the tables, clearing dishes, and even changing lightbulbs whenever he could. His thoughtfulness, work ethic, and quiet generosity were present in every stage of his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Normand's memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus Mumford Council Charity Fund. A memorial mass will be held in Arizona at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 30th at 11 a.m. His funeral service will be held in Massachusetts in the fall.
