Ollie May Summers, 94, of Belle Rive, Illinois, passed away at 8:50 am July 6, 2025 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mrs. Summers was born April 3, 1931 in Belle Rive, Illinois to Paul and Florence (Hamson) Spreen. On May 28, 1949 she married Donald Summers who preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Summers is survived by one son, Larry Summers of Belle Rive; daughter-in-law, Linda Anita Summers of Jena, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Jacquelyn Coleman and husband, Billy of West Monroe, Louisiana, Angela Summers of Jena, Louisiana, Jessica Norman and husband, Stephen of Pineville, Louisiana, and James Summers Jr. and wife, Brooke of Angola, Louisiana; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Summers, Sr.; and one sister, Mildred Satterfield.
Mrs. Summers was a member of the church of Christ, attending Belle Rive and Mount Vernon congregations for many years. She worked as a cook for several years at the Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp near Dahlgren. She was a helper and aid at the Belle Rive church of Christ Monday School program for several years. She will be missed by all that knew her.
A Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Visitation will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Mr. David Goin and Mr. Justin Odom officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Camp Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Ollie's honor to Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp.
