Oscar Torres-Luqui Obituary

Oscar Alberto Torres-Luqui passed away after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's Disease on January 30, 2025. Oscar was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, on August 19, 1937. He studied law at Universidad Nacional de Asuncion and, after graduating in 1966, spent many years working for his father's law firm before starting his own.
He immigrated his family to the United States in 1972. A man of many trades, Oscar worked in several industries while learning the legal system in the United States through the Foreign Attorneys Program at American University. A man of many passions and talents, Oscar was an amazing chef who could cook almost any dish one could think of, including his most loved Opa Sauce.
Oscar was a big believer in giving back to his community, as shown by his over 20 years of volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, with the Library of Congress, and his teachings with the E.S.O.L. program at Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was a member since 1974 when the church still congregated at a local school.
Oscar was a long-time member of the Democratic Party in Prince William County and good friends with John Jenkins, his local county supervisor. Oscar spent his final years before retirement working as a judicial clerk and bailiff for the Commonwealth of Virginia with the Workers Compensation Commission in Fairfax, Virginia, which he commuted to on his beloved Vespa whenever possible. A man with too many interests to list here, as evident by the many bookshelves full of books he has read over the years. Oscar was truly a man one would wish their children to become.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo Torres and Amanda Luqui de Torres, his brother Eduardo Jose and his sister Maria Christina. Oscar is survived by the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Valentina Torres; his children, Susana McArthur, Andres Torres, and Amanda Thompson; as well as his 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Oscar, known by many simply as Opa, touched the lives of hundreds of people in his lifetime, and he will be forever missed but never forgotten.
A viewing will be held at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home (4143 Dale Blvd in Dale City, VA) on February 7th at 10 am, followed by his memorial service at 11 am, and his burial at Mount Comfort Cemetery ( 6600 S. Kings Hwy in Alexandria, VA) at 1 pm.
