Owen Dudney, 93, of Afton, died Monday, May 12, 2025 at Clark County Hospital in Osceola, Ia. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2025 at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Sheila Sutton and Denise Dudney will officiate the service. The service will be livestreamed located under events at powersfh.com. A private burial will be at the Lorimor Cemetery. Open visitation with family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service Monday. Memorials can be kindly made to Owen's family. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.
Owen Merrill Dudney, son of Lucille (Foreman) Dudney and Earl Dudney, was born on November 30, 1931, in Warren County, Iowa. Owen attended country schools in the Milo area.
On July 30, 1952, Owen was united in marriage to Shirley Beth Simons. The two settled in Winterset. To this union three children were born, Shellie, Douglas and Kenton. In 1959, the family moved to a farm northeast of Afton, where they lived for 36 years. Owen worked on campers for several years as a shop foreman in Winterset, also at Osceola Concrete, and Purolator in Creston. They moved to Creston and later returned to Afton.
Owen is survived by his daughter, Shellie Hansen of Creston; his sons, Douglas (Denise) Dudney of Milton, Fla. and Kent (Julie) Dudney of Weldon, Ia.; along with his eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and many other extended family and friends.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley in 2024; his brothers, Marion Dudney in infancy and Floyd Dudney; and a granddaughter, Nicki Morales.
