Panagiotis "Peter" Skokos, age 72, fell asleep in the Lord on July 7th, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
Born in Greece, Peter carried with him a deep pride in his heritage and a heart full of dreams when he came to the United States many years ago. What he built here was a life rich in love, laughter, and connection. He never met a stranger; only friends he hadn't spoken to yet. Before coming to America, Peter served honorably in the Greek military, where he developed a deep sense of duty, discipline, and camaraderie that stayed with him throughout his life.
Peter was a natural storyteller, the kind who could make you laugh until your stomach hurt or move you with a memory from his childhood. His jokes were legendary, his laughter infectious and his presence brought light to every gathering. Whether at the dinner table or out among friends, he had a way of making everyone feel seen and welcomed. He especially loved serving guests and forming lasting friendships through the family restaurant, which was his pride and joy.
Family meant everything to Peter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Anastasia, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life; his daughters Athanasia (Andrew) Banich and Panagiota (Sean) Ryan; and his sister, Vasiliki Kostandakis. He was a proud and deeply loving grandfather to Loukas, Conor Peter, Ana, Timmy, Rory, Ava, and Maria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarantos and Athanasia Skokos; his brother, Konstantinos Skokos; and his sister, Garifalia Alikakos-each of whom he held close in his heart throughout his life. Fond uncle to many.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14th at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, 7373 N Caldwell Ave, Niles from 9:30AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:30AM. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church or the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated. May his memory be eternal.
