Patrick "Pat" P. Schendel
Patrick Pierre Schendel, 76, of Chicago, IL passed away at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, under hospice care, on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Patrick was born on July 4, 1949, to Melvin and Huguette (Melin) Schendel in Marshalltown, IA. He graduated from Story City High School in 1967 and attended some higher education at Central Missouri State College, before moving to Chicago where he has lived since that time. His career included a variety of retail sales positions, clerical, and work in food service.
Patrick had a keen interest in many collectibles and found great joy in surrounding himself with his favorites. He cared deeply for his close friends and was generous with his time and limited resources wherever he could. Even though he lived far from his family, he kept up to date through phone conversations and social media.
Patrick is survived by his brother, Philip (Barbara) Schendel of Ames, IA; sister Kathy Link of Nevada, IA; great nephew Owen Link of Ames, IA; niece Cherilynn (Craig) Schendel-Hennager of Story City, IA; great nieces Shelby and Madison Hennager and great nephew Jacob Hennager of Story City, IA; niece Sarah Schendel of Ames, IA; nephew Josh (Krissy) Link of Knoxville, IA; great nephew and niece Holt and Blythe Link of Knoxville, IA; and close family friend Alan Eddington, of Chicago, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Huguette Schendel, of rural Garden City, IA, and by his nephew Aaron Link of Ames, IA.
A private family burial is planned. Patrick will be laid to rest at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, Garden City, IA.
