Mrs. Patricia Ann Pursell, affectionately known as Pat to all who knew her, lived a life that was a testament to love, creativity, and intelligence. Born on September 19, 1942, Pat's journey through this world was marked by her unwavering faith and her remarkable ability to touch the lives of those around her with her kindness and wisdom. On June 27, 2025, Pat's earthly chapter closed, but the legacy she leaves behind continues to inspire and guide us. She was a loving mother, a doting grandmother, a cherished sister, and a faithful cousin. Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them the virtues of compassion, resilience, and grace.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tammy Jo Coleman and her husband Marty of Opelika, AL, and her loving son, James Pursell and his wife Leigh of Alexander City, AL. Pat's grandchildren, Ashley Lauren Butler and her husband Bryan, and Emily Jo Brier and her husband Todd, will carry forward her nurturing spirit and love for life. Her brother, William Hanson and his wife Terri, and her cousin, Susie Ewing and her husband John, will continue to honor Pat's memory in all that they do.
Pat's journey was shaped by the love she shared with her late husband, Joe B. Pursell, who was her partner in every sense of the word. Her parents, Rufus Eugene Hanson, Sr., and Ann Hanson, along with her siblings, Kathy Davis and Rufus Eugene Hanson, Jr., preceded her in death, and we find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with them in eternal peace. Pat had a unique ability to see the potential in every person and situation, encouraging others to strive for their best and to embrace the journey of life with open hearts and minds.
Let us honor Pat's memory by living with purpose, loving without reservation, and approaching each day as an opportunity to make a positive impact. Her spirit remains with us, guiding us to be better, to do better, and to love better. As we celebrate Pat's life, we are reminded that we too can leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those we encounter. Mrs. Patricia Ann Pursell's story is far from over; it lives on in each of us, inspiring us to live a life as loving, creative, and intelligent as hers.
Pat also had a green thumb, and she loved working in her lawn and gardens. The legacy of flowers she had planted in her gardens live on for others to enjoy. She also loved animals, and her cats, Molly and Bandit. They brought joy in her life as she brought joy into theirs.
In lieu of flowers, one can donate to the Alex City Animal Shelter, 2502 Sugar Creek Rd., Alexander City, AL. 35010.
