Patricia Wedberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2025.
Patricia Ann Wedberg passed away on July 9, 2025 in Bishop, California. She was 89 years old. Known as Pat while she was growing up and later as Trish, she was born on a farm in the small town of Newport, Nebraska in 1936. After graduating from Rock County High School in 1953, she attended Chadron College for the summer. She then taught in a rural one room school house in the small town of Bassett, Nebraska. After teaching Trish moved to San Francisco with her childhood friend Theona, working at Pan Am Airlines, before Trish moved back to Lincoln, Nebraska taking a job with State Farm Insurance. An adventurous spirit, she longed to continue exploring lands beyond her home state. This led her to work her way back west waiting tables, eventually arriving in Los Angeles in 1960. Trish's strong work ethic and exceptional organizational skills made her a prized administrator to anyone fortunate enough to keep her in employment. It was in Los Angeles while working as a secretary in a brokerage house that she met her future husband John. John's passion for hiking, skiing, flying his Cessna 182, and spending time in the outdoors rubbed off on Trish. Many of their early dates were hiking adventures to the Sierra and the ski hut on Mt. Baldy. They married on December 7, 1965.

A dedicated wife and mother, Trish left her job to be a stay-at-home mom raising three children. During this time Trish was an active volunteer in the PTA, the First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the National Charity League. After a 10-year hiatus, Trish went back to work as a legal secretary in a law firm with offices in Century City and downtown Los Angeles. In 1993 John and Trish bought a retirement home and moved to Bishop, California. While living in Bishop, Trish continued her career as a legal secretary in a small law office, while also volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce and the First United Methodist Church. Trish enjoyed countless hikes together with John, and with her fun loving group the Mighty Mountain Mamas. Trish was an avid reader and enjoyed solving word search puzzles in her later years. Trish will be remembered for being a devoted wife and loving mother, her dedication, perseverance, and punctuality. Trish is survived by her son Kurt Wedberg, daughter in law Kelly and grandson Asher of Bishop, California; her daughter Christina Wedberg Zittle, son in law Michael Zittle and grand-daughter Vivian of Seattle, Washington; her son Troy Wedberg of Berkeley, California; her sister Carolyn Doke of Newport, Nebraska; and her Aunt Shirley Walsh of Slayton, Minnesota. We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for her loving caregivers Gege Clark and Zenaida "Nadette" Dionaldo. Trish was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years John Wedberg; her parents Reno and Hazel Gordon; and her brothers Jerald and Donald Gordon. A celebration of life will be held on August 23, 2025 in Bishop, California at the First United Methodist Church at 2pm.

I remember when we first met. Grandma (who would become her mother-in-law) took me to Uncle Johnny's office to say hello, and Trish was his secretary at that time. They were dating too, and I think it was already "serious". She looked fabulous and businesslike in a suit. We didn't stay long, but I had met the lovely lady who would become my aunt! The wedding was private, so I didn't get to attend. But I was at the vow renewal years later, after which Johnny did a wonderful slide show of their lives together! He always said that when they married, he lost the best secretary he ever had. Family camping trips is when we spent the most time getting to know each other, but I enjoyed visits in Los Angeles over the years, and of course the many holidays we spent with the grandparents in Pacific Palisades. She must have liked me ok, because I got to be the babysitter many times when I was a teenager! That was really fun. One special tradition we had was one Trish started with me, the annual birthday letter! She would send mine in October, and I sent her's in May. We kept up Christmas cards for a long time too. We enjoyed doing both of these until the very later years, and I miss them. I made several visits to Bishop after they moved, and recall those as very special times. I wished for a closer family, but we were always pretty distant geographically, especially after I left California. These days, families do the best they can. Trish was the only person I've ever known, as far as I know, who didn't like chocolate! She loved strong black coffee, though, and mayonnaise! The things you remember! I rejoice in having known her and have so many great memories. Rest in peace, and we were all so blessed to have you in our lives! I know I will see you again and send all my love. And now it can be told: she was always my favorite aunt!

My heart goes out to Kurt, Christina and Troy! Trish was like a second mom to me while growing up on Stradella Road. She always welcomed me into her home with a smile. I remember many a days playing games in the living room or dancing around the den. She put up with a lot of our teen shenanigans! I will always remember her as a kind and gentle soul. Rest in Peace. All my love- Alex I´ll have to hunt down some old photos. Sorry this is all I have digitally.
