Patrick "Cody” Johnston
May 31, 1985 – July 9, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patrick Cody Johnston, lovingly known as Cody, on July 9, 2025 at his home in Junction, Texas. He was 40 years old. Cody had a strong work ethic, and was proud of a job well done. He volunteered for many years for the Kerrville Folk Music Festival, Junction Wild Game Dinner, amongst many other volunteer positions in the various regions he traveled. Cody was widely known for his adventurous spirit and deep love for the outdoors. He felt most at home in nature, and whether fishing, camping, or just barbecuing in his backyard. Cody cherished the time spent with his friends, and family. He explored far and wide in his youth, from the depths of caverns where few have gone, to remote regions of the lower 48, having swam in both oceans at a young age. In recent years he moved back to Junction, and found contentment in being a proud homeowner, smoking ribs and being the bearer of the traditional secret family dry rub recipe made by JL Baugh, which helped his fine barbecue become the best brisket west of the Mississippi. He was the kind of person who was always willing to lend a hand, never met a stranger, and carried an undeniable warmth in everything he did and his love for family ran deep. His family and friends are left with an aching absence of his unique spirit, warm humor, and fearless heart, he was the one you wanted at your side for tough situations and good times, and had a personal honor and loyalty seldom encountered. He lived life fully and without hesitation—when Cody committed to something, he went all in. His energy, laughter, and fearless heart will be missed more than words can convey.
Cody is survived by his sweetheart Virginia Rodgers, his father Mark Soward, his mother Tambra Peace, his beloved sisters Tashina “Tia” Pease and Cheyenne “Cheye” Pease, his stepmother Sally Soward, and stepsister Amanda Montoya, his godmother Monica Gilbert, and his chosen brothers Dale, Justin, and Pete, and many more family members, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched for he had a net that was spread far and wide. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Patsie Johnston. He is missed by his loyal dog Dozer and trusted cat Salem. "It’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln We find comfort in knowing that Cody is now in the loving arms of the Lord, free and at peace, and reunited with loved ones who went before him.
