Little's Funeral Home and Cremation Service - SmithfieldPaul R. Williams, 72, of Peru, NY, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Paul was known for his generous heart, infectious energy, and deep devotion to his family.
He was predeceased by his mother Florence Clark-Williams, his father John Williams, his brothers Walter Williams, Jack Williams, and Wayne Williams and his sisters Vivian Rock and Janice Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue L. Williams; his children, Alicia Sood and her husband Rishi Sood of Suffolk, VA, and Matthew Williams and his wife Mia Ochoa of Lubbock, TX; his grandchildren, Ryan and Penelope; his siblings, Carol Maxwell and Margaret McQuarrie; and his close friend, Lillian McWeeny, along with many other extended family members and friends.
Paul spent his career as a respiratory therapist and Director of Respiratory at CVPH Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY, where he served with dedication and compassion for 42 years before retiring in 2018. His work reflected his character — always putting others first, offering comfort, and lending a helping hand wherever it was needed.
He shared 43 years of marriage with the love of his life, Sue L. Williams. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, support, and adventure. Paul was the adoring grandfather of Ryan and Penelope — his greatest joy and the heart of his world.
Paul had a true zest for life. He loved vacationing, the thrill of the casino, and most of all, being surrounded by the people he loved. His favorite hobbies included fishing, gardening, and animal watching, activities that brought him peace and joy. He found true happiness in playing with his grandkids and watching them at their athletic games, always cheering them on with pride. After living out his retirement dream in Florida, he later moved to Virginia to be closer to his grandchildren, where he embraced his role as “Papoo” with his whole heart.
He was a good-hearted man who lived life with purpose and generosity. Always willing to lend a hand, Paul would drop everything to help someone in need. He was the kind of dad who showed up for every project, cooked Sunday dinners with pride, and gave without hesitation. His warmth, humor, and love for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
Paul’s sudden passing leaves a space that can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the memories shared, the lessons passed down, and the lives forever changed by his love.
