Peggy Jean Norris, age 90, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025, at her daughter's residence in Tiptonville, TN.
Born on October 27, 1934, in Wynnburg, TN, she was the beloved daughter of the late Melvin and Elizabeth Harrison King. Peggy dedicated 36 years of her life as the Register of Deeds for Lake County, where she was recognized by John Tanner on the floor of the U.S. Congress for being the longest-serving woman in public office in Tennessee. Her commitment to public service was matched by her devotion to her faith as a member of the First Baptist Church in Tiptonville. She was actively involved as a choir member, youth leader, WMU, and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Her volunteer work extended to the American Cancer Society and numerous other community organizations, where she was always known for her smile and encouraging words. Peggy's legacy of service and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Tiptonville with Bro. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors starting at 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter and "son", Tammy and Ricky Gray of Tiptonville, TN; a sister, Carolyn Kimbrell of Dyersburg, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, "Tinker" Norris; a son, Tommy Norris; and three sisters, Martha Sue King, Delores Haynes and Penny Bratton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Warren, Stacy Rivers, Royce York, Roland Pope, Danny Cook, Cody Rodriquez and Tony Parker.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or at www.cancer.org/donate
