Evelyn (Peggy) Ann Young Steele, age 94 of Cambridge, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Ohio Health Southeastern Medical Center surrounded by family. She was born on August 8, 1931 in Hammondsville, Ohio, the firstborn of the late William Thomas Young and Beulah Cronin Young McConnell.
Peggy was all about being of service to others, being a faithful Christian, being extremely family oriented and being a very thoughtful friend. She was often found cooking/baking food to deliver to others, driving people to doctor appointments, and helping out in any way possible. Peggy served as a classroom volunteer, band mother, sports mother, and as den mother to a Cub Scout troop. She was considered a Mother to all.
She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served as one of the originator volunteer of the "Check in Charley" ministry. Additionally, Peggy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and participated for years in Wing 13, a Guernsey Memorial Hospital auxiliary service group. Some of her favorite hobbies included her love for playing golf and her proclivity as a great card player, especially enjoying Bridge.
Along with her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years Dr. A.D. Steele Jr.; a son, Scott Douglas Steele; a daughter-in-law, Mary Steele and a sister Helen Heiney.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen D. Steele, Ph.D. of Anderson, South Carolina and Patricia D. (Dr. Anthony "Skip") Mollica of Augusta, Georgia; a son Curtis D. Steele of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Chris Steele of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Meghan (Sam) Rivard, Rachel (Charles) Laughlin, Phillip (Caroline) Mollica, Patrick (Lindsay) Mollica, Eric Steele, Michael Steele and Lauren (Sam) Doron; nine great grandchildren: Anna, Micah, Beau, Hampton, Culley, Scottie, Connor, Finn and Ellis; and her siblings, Patty Rose, Marilyn Milhoan, Janie Wimer, Billy (Judy) Young, Bonny (Lonnie) Fraley.
Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church 641 Steubenville Avenue
Cambridge, Ohio 43725 on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10am to 11am with her service to begin at 11am. Rev. Tina Siroki and Rob Lilienthal will officiate with burial to follow in Northwood Cemetery.
