Peggy Ellen Wetherington
May 31, 1938 – June 28, 2025
Peggy Ellen Wetherington passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on May 31, 1938, in Ozark, Alabama, Peggy was the beloved daughter of Marjorie Howell Snellgrove and John Purnell Snellgrove.
Peggy lived a full and vibrant life marked by strength, hard work, generosity, and a spirited sense of independence. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Lisa Yandel (Tim) of Woodstock, Georgia, and her sons Eric Wetherington (Natalie) of Tampa, Florida, and Greg Norton (Cheryl) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister Sandra McDonald of Fredericksburg, Texas; four cherished grandchildren – Timothy Yandel, Chelsea (Alex) Horton, Eva Wetherington, and Dawson Wetherington – and three adored great-grandchildren: Olivia Maude, Hugh, and Maisie Horton.
Peggy had a deep love for gardening, music, and dancing. She brought joy and energy wherever she went and was known for her giving heart and playful spirit – including her fondness for flirting, which left many a broken heart behind. Her collard greens and cornbread were legendary, and her kitchen was always a place of comfort and connection.
She was a woman of compassion, generously giving of her time and resources to causes she believed in, including the Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. But above all, Peggy's greatest joy was her family, whom she loved fiercely and without measure.
Peggy was the heart of her family. She had a tough exterior yet carefully hidden softness. Her endless love and wisdom will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
