Peter Decensi Obituary

Peter Decensi, 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2025, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, New Hampshire.
Born on July 25, 1926, in Adams, Massachusetts, Peter was the son of the late Giovanni and Elizabeth (Radaelli) Decensi. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and David. After graduating from Adams High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard a destroyer escort. Following his service, he attended North Adams State Teachers College.
Peter was a gifted athlete who excelled in baseball, football, hockey, and basketball. Known for his extraordinary agility, he was once described as being able to jump twice his own height. His lifelong love of baseball began in 1938 when, as a bat boy, he met Babe Ruth. Years later, while on leave from the Navy, he attended a Boston Red Sox game and met Ted Williams. In later years, he enjoyed coaching church league basketball and played volleyball, and he remained especially passionate about golf.
In 1950, Peter married the love of his life, Helen (Moser) Decensi, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years. In 1991, the couple retired to Daytona Beach, Florida, where they lived overlooking the LPGA home course. In 2022, Peter moved to Eliot, Maine, to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
A devout Catholic, Peter served for many years as head usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona Beach. He was also an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hager, and her husband, Jeff, of Eliot, Maine; three grandchildren: Sarah Hager of Seattle, Washington, Justin Hager of Apex, North Carolina, and Michael Hager and his wife, Diana, of Washington, North Carolina; and three great-granddaughters: Ava, Everly, and Alana, all of North Carolina. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Albin Moser, and his wife, Eileen, of Little Compton, Rhode Island, along with one niece and four nephews.
Peter will be remembered for his joyful spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family.
A private burial will take place in Adams, Massachusetts.
