Peter J. Maycott beloved husband of the late Edith (Frede) Maycott, died peacefully at Regional Hospice on March 1, 2025, in Danbury, CT. He was 80 years old. He was born in the Bronx, NY, on June 8, 1944, to Peter and Catherine (Whalen) Maycott.
On June 26, 1965, Peter married the love of his life, Edith (Frede) at Grace Baptist Church in Bronx, NY.
Peter worked as a City Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years before retiring in 2002.
Peter moved to Putnam Lake in 1972, where he got involved in many organizations. He was a member of the Advisor Living History Guild for 25 years where he worked on historical reenactments. He was a Scout Master for troop #63 for several years. He was also a member of the Hudson Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Team working through many incidents over the course of several years.
Peter joined the Putnam Lake Fire Department on September 10, 1975. He was an active life member of the Putnam Lake Fire Department for 50 years. Peter rose through the ranks all the way to Chief. He served in the position from 1987-1989. He played a big role in the department and was a mentor to many.
Besides his wife Edith of 50 years, Pete is survived by his beloved dog, Colleen, his sister-in-law Edna Fitzgerald and husband Ed Fitzgerald, Nieces, Marie Pastore, Anna Meyerdierks Smith, Eileen Grimes, Nephews, John Pastore, Wilfred Meyerdierks, and Eddy Fitzgerald, and many more family and friends. Peter was predeceased by his lovely wife, parents, and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place Friday, March 7, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue,
Carmel, NY.
During the visitation, Putnam Lake Volunteer Fire Department (PLFD) will honor Peter with a ceremony at 6:00pm.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Peter's life will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Patterson Baptist Church, 595 NY - 311, Patterson, NY 12563. The services will be officiated by Pastor Dr. Larry Maxwell.
Following the Church Services, Peter will be escorted by PLFD to his final resting place alongside his beloved wife, Edith Maycott (2015), in Patterson Baptist Cemetery (Old Towners Cemetery), located across from the Church on NY-311
