Peter Mendivil, 59, of York, SC, passed away on June 29, 2025. To say that the world is less vibrant since that day is an understatement. He is survived by his wife Melissa, his two daughters Catie and Becca, his mother Florence, and his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Peter was born on November 21st, 1965, to Florence and Fernando in El Centro, California. After graduating from Catalina High School in 1983, he went on to earn a B.A. in Economics at the University of Arizona and a B.A. in Humanities at Washington College. Being the life-long student he was, he also recently earned an Associate of Science degree in Applied Horticulture at Spartanburg Community College, graduating with honors and a 4.0 GPA. After graduating from college, he started in his first job at the Department of Education in Washington D.C. where he made some of his best and long-lasting friendships. He then spent most of his career as a Financial Analyst, working for companies such as Raytheon, Disney, and Warner Brothers - and had an impressive collection of DC Comics graphic novels to show for it! All the while, he never turned down the call to adventure, moving from coast to coast: from Tucson to Los Angeles to Charlotte and finally landing in York. But he would be the first to tell you that his greatest adventure was his marriage and life with his wife, Melissa. Peter and Melissa met in 2010 and were married in October of 2012, eloping to their dream wedding in Barcelona and spending their honeymoon traveling through charming cities all across Europe. Their fairytale continued long after their return from the honeymoon as Peter stepped not only into the role of cherished husband, but also becoming the brilliant and ever-proud father of Melissa's daughters, Catie and Becca. Peter's endless love for his family was evident throughout his entire life. By the age of six, he was already his mother Florence's best friend, talking and cooking with her in the kitchen and being each other's closest confidants. She was always one of his favorite people to spend time with, and pulling up a chair to their conversations was a journey into rich stories of family history and hilarious anecdotes. Peter was the loving big brother to Sam, Saralinda, and Fernando, each one bringing out different facets of his one-in-a-million personality. He loved each of his nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Isaiah, Marina, Ezekiel, and Nathaniel with his whole heart, and beamed with pride at all of their many accomplishments. Nothing made him happier than watching them grow as individuals. In his most recent years, Peter followed his heart, giving up his days in a corporate office and trading them for learning and practicing the art of gardening in the horticulture program at Spartanburg Community College and working with his beloved crew at Blackmon Landscaping. He was enthusiastically elected as the president of the school's Horticulture Club, an appointment he received with pride and carried out with gusto. For every spring plant sale he helped organize with the club, he managed to bring home at least a dozen new plants to add to his own flourishing garden. Everyone who knew Peter knew him as a plant whisperer, a rom-com fanatic, a lover of fine cuisine and dive bars alike, a Chelsea FC fan, and a whiskey connoisseur. He never stopped dreaming and talking about traveling with his wife to Spain where they were planning to retire, drawing up business plans for his landscaping business, and buying storybooks to read to his future grandchildren. Above all, though, Peter was a devoted husband and unparalleled father. He spent every day sharing his light and love with everyone in his orbit but saved his brightest rays for his wife and daughters. He will be dearly missed and warmly remembered for the rest of our days. Details for Peter's Celebration of Life ceremony will be posted to the 'Events & RSVPs' section of his memorial site at https://everloved.com/life-of/peter-mendivil/. We are so grateful to all who wish to come to share memories and celebrate the amazing and deeply loved man Peter Mendivil is.
