WEST STOCKHOLM – Peter L. Smith, 67, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Wynn Hospital in Utica.
Pete was born in Massena on September 11, 1957, the son of the late Paul and Anita (Dupuis) Smith and graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1976. He married Valerie A. Tucker on September 10, 1978 at St. Raymond's Catholic Church in Raymondville.
Pete worked in the maintenance department at Clarkson University for 38 years, retiring in June 2024. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects, camping, tinkering around his garage, and cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Pete is survived by his wife, Val; his children, Marcus (Melissa) Smith of Barneveld, New York, Jennifer (Wayne "Duffer") Green of West Potsdam, and Jason Smith (Liz Goodfellow) of Massena; his grandchildren, Austin, Brooke, Kaylee, Devin, Cohen, Brayden, Kohl, and Trinity; his great granddaughter, Octavia; his sisters, Brenda (Tom) Hall of Norfolk, Deanna (Gregory) Krautner of Richmond, Virginia, and Shelly (Tom) Smith of Potsdam; his brother, Chad (Tammey) Smith of Colton; his beloved canine companion, Jack; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends especially his longtime colleagues at Clarkson.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where friends may call Tuesday, July 1st from 5-8:00 PM and Wednesday 12-1:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 2:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Potsdam. Burial will follow in Bixby Cemetery, Norfolk.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
