Phil Baumgartner, 78, of Cross Plains passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Meadowview Health and Rehab Center in Salem. He was born in Cincinnati on November 13, 1946, the son of Don and Jackie Spell Baumgartner. Phil was a 1966 graduate of Woodward High School and owned and operated Baumgartner Masonry for over 40 years. Survivors include his 18 year companion Ilene Ryker; children Donnie and Amanda Baumgartner of Cross Plains, Amy and Terry Slone of Manchester, Laurie and Jon Eggemeier of Independence, Kentucky, Caroline Baumgartner of Versailles, Wayne Moody of Benham, and Ellen Werner of Cross Plain; grandchildren Logan, Seth, and Kaeli Slone, Tori, Phillip, Chelsea and Bradley Baumgartner, Jayden, Trey McAdams, Brianna Hornsby, Michaela, and Hunter McAdams, Miranda Ferry Lucas Baumgartner, Addison Eggemeier, Nicole and Tim Muster, Brittney Moody; great-grandchildren Mason, Aiden, Jaxon, Skyler, and Raylon; one sister Peggy (Greg) Goosman of Mims, Florida; one brother Eugene Baumgartner of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judy Henn. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday. Military honors will be presented Thursday evening at the funeral home by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion or the The Ripley County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
