Phil was born on November 27, 1995, to Jamie and Laurel (Anderson) Iverson in Willmar, Minnesota. As a little boy, Phil's love for trains, especially Thomas the Tank Engine stories was unmatched-an early sign of the imagination, wonder, and heart that would define his life. He graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 2014, where he was a vibrant presence in the speech and theatre programs. He was involved in many community and school plays, a passion that he shared with his mom who has been in many productions herself. Phil and Laurel even had the opportunity to be in a few productions together.
Phil continued his education at the University of Minnesota – Morris, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching in 2019. During his summers on break from college, he served as a camp counselor at Shores of St. Andrew. A defining chapter of his journey was student teaching in Australia, where he not only taught students but also picked up a new favorite dish-buttered chicken-taught to him by his host family. He mastered it, and it became his signature dish back home. While abroad, he also had the opportunity to explore New Zealand.
Upon returning to Minnesota, Phil began his teaching career as a substitute teacher at New London-Spicer and surrounding area schools. He obtained a full-time position at MACCRAY High School in Clara City as a history and social studies teacher, a role he held for about two years. He was also involved in theater productions during his time there.
Phil started working for Leaf and Lake, where he helped organize, grow, and structure the new business. Ever curious and dedicated to sustainability, Phil strived to make the world a greener, more thoughtful place. He truly loved his work and the mission behind it. He had the opportunity to apply his diverse skill set, including graphic design, construction, web design, computer proficiency, and research and development.
In 2022, Phil answered another calling and joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, continued with Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning in Georgia, and most recently trained in engineering at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He returned home to Minnesota in January 2025. His unit is the 492nd Engineer Company based in Mankato where he served as 2nd in command.
Phil was also a member of Living Word Lutheran Church where he was confirmed. He had a lifelong love for video and computer games and would often game together with his friends online in his spare time. In recent years, he developed a passion for fixing and restoring vintage motorcycles and dirt bikes. A hobby that he shared with his dad which led to many adventures retrieving old bikes and new skills learned in working on them.
He is survived by his parents, Jamie and Laurel Iverson of New London; grandparents, Roger and Julia Iverson; aunt, Coreen Walker; uncle and aunt, Warren and Katya Anderson; and cousins, Alex Walker, Katrina Anderson, and Natasha Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Clarissa Iverson and grandparents, Kim and Richard Anderson.
