Phyllis Jane Ford Claassen April 11, 1942 – Sep

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Jane Ford Claassen, who died peacefully on September 11, 2024, in Menifee, California, at the age of 82. Phyllis passed away after a courageous battle with kidney disease, surrounded by loved ones and her precious dog Katie. Born on April 11, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, and grew up in Ottawa, Illinois, where she graduated from Ottawa High School. She was the only child of the late John and Dorothy (Moss) Ford and shared a deep and enduring bond with her mother. Phyllis cherished her grandparents and held fond memories of their farm in Grand Rapids Township, as well as the time spent with her Moss cousins. These formative years helped shape the warmth, kindness, and deep sense of family that she carried with her throughout her life. Phyllis spent over 46 years in Homeland, California, where she found peace and joy in the comfort of her home and community. Phyllis lived a life guided by a strong moral compass, one she inherited from her mother and grandmother. Phyllis enjoyed a fulfilling career with the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, where she worked for many years and found great satisfaction in helping others. In 1988, Phyllis met her sweetheart, Philip Bromund. Their deep connection grew into a lasting partnership, and they shared many adventures together. One of their most memorable was a cross-country trip along the Lewis & Clark Trail, visiting family and friends along the way. Phyllis and Philip's bond was one of shared love, respect, and a love for life’s journey. A lifelong lover of animals, Phyllis had a deep affection for her German Shepherds, who brought her much joy and companionship over the years. Her connection to her dogs was something she cherished deeply, and they were often a comfort to her. Phyllis is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dorothy, and her lifetime partner Phil. She is survived by a close-knit circle of family and friends who will cherish her memory and remember her for her kindness, generosity, and the love she so freely gave. Phyllis will be laid to rest in a private ceremony beside her cherished grandparents at Grand Rapids Cemetery in LaSalle County, Illinois. Her unwavering love for family and friends, coupled with her remarkable strength and grace, will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Phyllis’s spirit will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched, and her memory will forever provide comfort and inspiration to those fortunate enough to have known her. Phyllis will be dearly missed, but her love and spirit will forever remain with us.tember 11, 2024
