It is fit and proper to recognize the achievements of individuals who substantially contributes to the vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
Providencia Pagan was born on August 3, 1924, in Isabela Puerto Rico, she moved to the Bronx in the late 1940s, where she began a new chapter in her life. She married in 1953 and took residence at 157 Bruckner Boulevard; and
Ms. Pagan and her husband later moved to the Forest Houses projects in the Bronx before settling in Mill Brook Houses in 1959 when they were first open to the public; and
Ms. Pagan raised three children, who attended PS 43 before transferring to St. Luke's Catholic Grammar School. Ms. Pagan, herself, worked as a paraprofessional at PS 43, dedicating her time to special needs children who adored her; and
Ms. Pagan also cared for many local children while their mothers went to work; she became a beloved figure in the community. Cherishing summer evenings with neighborhood friends, watching the children play, her most treasured moments were those that fostered a strong sense of community and built lasting friendships; and
Ms. Pagan always remained steadfastly focused on her children and grandchildren, continuing to help her friends in caring for their children whenever the need would arise, her role as a pillar of support in the community was regularly reinforced; and
Ms. Pagan was also deeply involved in church activities at St. Luke's. Her passion for caring for others and her unwavering dedication to her community earned her the love and respect of everyone who knows her; and
Ms. Pagan celebrated her 100th birthday on August 3, 2024.
