Randall Bohling Obituary

Randall Bohling was delivered to the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Please join us in celebrating the life of Randy on July 31, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Carleton, Ne. There will be a military honors ceremony immediately following at the Carleton cemetery. Randy was born on October 14, 1947, to Harlan and Evelyn Bohling, in Deshler Nebraska. Randy attended grades 1-8 at St Peters Lutheran school. He attended Deshler Public school 9-10th grade and Davenport High school for 11th and 12th grade. Randy graduated from Davenport High School, class of 1965. Randy was baptized and confirmed at St Peters Lutheran church, Deshler. Through high school Randy enjoyed playing football and baseball. He could be found doing mechanic work on cars when he wasn't working at the filling station, Ray Mausoleum, and putting up hay every summer. In the fall of 1961, at the age of 14, Randy met the love of his life, Sherri Heinrichs (Bohling). After graduation Randy worked at Alice Chalmers in Nelson until he left for Milford Trade school in January 1966. Randy graduated from Milford Trade school as a diesel mechanic in 1967. In July of 1967 Randy left for Army basic training in Fort Benning, GA. He then attended six months of Heavy Equipment mechanic school in Fort Bell, VA. Randy was always very proud of his time serving his country. He was very proud of his son, Michael, son-in-law, Tim, and grandson, Trever for their time in the Air Force. On December 23, 1967 Randy and Sherri were married at Peace Lutheran, Deshler, Ne. Randy left one week later to spend a year in Waygon Korea during the Vietnam War. After his time in Korea, they were stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado where he was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. While stationed in Colorado they were gifted the blessing of a baby girl, Amy Jo, who they loved as their own child their entire lives. Their oldest son, Michael Sean, was then born in March 1970. 1970-1972 Randy worked in Hebron, Ne at John Deere as a mechanic. In 1972 Randy and Sherri began farming corn and milo and raised pigs and cows. In 1975 they began their own trucking company: Bohling & Son's Inc. At one point they had several trucks and drivers primarily hauling corn and cattle. In 1976 their second son, Andrew James, was born. From 1975-1986 Randy continued to farm and operate Bohling & Son's. In 1980, their daughter, Amber Lynn, was born. From the late 80's-1997 Randy was leased to Wildcat trucking as an owner/operator, long haul, flatbed truck driver. Randy built his own 359 Peterbilt in 1983 and put 2 million miles on it himself. In 1999 Randy retired the 359 Peterbilt and bought a new Peterbilt 379. He then leased to Landstar specializing in heavy haul. He was very proud of the extra wide, extra heavy, cross country loads he managed. Randy put 1.4 million miles on that 379 Peterbilt until he retired in 2016 to give the best care to his wife, Sherri. In 2001 Randy and Sherri moved to Mountain Home, Idaho to be closer to their oldest son and his family. Throughout Randy's life he had many accomplishments and was many things to many people. The epic love story he shared with his wife, Sherri, for 60 years prior to her passing, was truly phenomenal. He was an expert trap/skeet shooter, avid hunter of elk/deer/and pheasants. Nobody could tell a story quite like Randy. He knew every mile marker, truck stop, back country road in all of America. His mind was like a historical museum for every American map, detailed dates and historical war events. Randy enjoyed gardening and was known for his giant watermelon, zucchini, and amazing tomatoes. In the last few years, when Randy had some health concerns he would help his daughter, Amber, plan their garden and drive by daily to instruct her that it needed more water, less water, weeding, or fertilizer. Randy and Amber would spend hours shucking their corn, baking chocolate zucchini bread, and tweaking their canned salsa recipe together. Randy could make a mean bowl of deer chili and homemade canned salsa that was so spicy your eyes would burn for days after just stepping in the house during the process. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, Veterans Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. Randy enjoyed fishing his entire life. He went on a memorable salmon fishing trip on the Salmon River in Lewiston Idaho with his son Andrew in 2022. He shared a love of restoring antique John Deere and Alice Chalmers tractors with his son, Michael. Randy never missed a home game for his Grandson's wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, and rodeo events. His giant smile and excitement for them in the stands will forever be missed. Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Harlan; his wife, Sherri; two stepbrothers: Bruce and Mark, and granddaughter, Jennifer. Randy will be greatly missed by his children: Amy Jennings of Lincoln, NE; Michael (Terry) Bohling of Featherville, ID; Drew (Dianne) Bohling of Eagle, ID, Amber (Tim) Bourland of Mountain Home, ID; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and four special nieces and nephews
