Randy Woodside Obituary

Randy Robert Woodside, age 70, of rural Pinckneyville, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025 at his home in Pinckneyville with his family by his side.
He was born Thursday, March 31, 1955 in Pinckneyville, a son of Lester Otto and Myrtle Marie (Magerkurth) Woodside.
Randy was a dedicated Union Laborer who left an indelible mark on the roads and landscapes of our community. His skilled hands helped construct and renovate many iconic landmarks, including Bald Knob Cross, Moody's Pharmacy in Sparta, and numerous roads throughout the metro area. But Randy's greatest accomplishments went far beyond his work. He was a devoted father, teaching his son the art of tracking and sharing his love for the great outdoors. Together, they explored the woods, hunting and foraging for mushrooms with a sense of adventure and joy. Randy's infectious sense of humor and quick wit made him a beloved companion. He lived by the creed that "if you can't have a laugh, it's no place to be." His love of fishing was only matched by his love of telling tales of his catches, and his passion for life was contagious. As a hard worker and expert in his field, Randy took pride in his craft and excelled at every task he undertook. He was a walking encyclopedia of building and measuring knowledge. Randy's love for country life was evident in everything he did, and he reveled in the simple pleasures of country living. Above all, Randy cherished his family and close-knit circle of friends. Though his friendships were few, they were deep and meaningful, built on a foundation of trust, loyalty, and shared experiences.
He is survived by his daughter- Jessica Woodside of Carbondale; son- Adam (Lesli) Woodside of Pinckneyville; five grandchildren- Mikey Mason, Lucas Mason, Tony Johnson, Alexis (Landon) Miller, Autumn Young; two great grandchildren; sister- Judith Davis of Nashville; brother- Larry (Phyllis) Woodside of Pinckneyville; sister- Debra (Kevin) Heggemeier of Coulterville; several nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members and friends he cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Russell Woodside and Donald Woodside; and two sisters- Norma McKenzie and Sharon Sides.
