Rebecca Godbey Obituary

Rebecca Jean Godbey of Charleston, Arkansas, was born on June 28, 1933, in Greenwood, Arkansas, to the late Everett Oscar Gentry and Belvia (Bartlett) Gentry, passed away on her birthday, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. She was 92 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Anabelle Damron.
Rebecca was a graduate of Charleston High School, a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.
While raising three boys, Becky was a member of the local Women's Club and the Garden Club. She became interested in flower arranging and won several blue ribbons, plus one "Queen of Show".
After two of her boys grew up and her life changed, she took employment as the Church Secretary and later as the Church Administrator. She was a member of the church choir, volunteered in the church kitchen, and was in charge of the church's rose garden for years. One of her friends told us, the garden has not been as beautiful since she retired.
She had a love of life, beauty, and peace. She and her sons always had animals around; including injured wild animals that they would nurse back to health. Spot the collie followed Bobby home one day and stayed for over a decade. Perky the snoring dove lived in the basement while it recuperated from a broken wing. Becky and Perky had a special relationship, chasing each other around whenever Becky went down to do laundry. More recently was Misty the cat, whose life was saved as a kitten from the jaws of a tom cat. Becky raised the kitten and she was the only person the cat allowed to snuggle her.
These examples reflect the love that lived in Becky. While people who knew her know that love, outsiders could also recognize it by the way animals treated her and plants flourished under her care. The world lost someone special when she left to join our Father in Heaven.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1st at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Bro. Greg Qualls officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, located near Hackett, Arkansas, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by three sons, Robert L. Godbey, II and wife Patricia of Huntington, West Virginia, Michael Wayne Godbey and wife Nancy of Louisville, Kentucky, and Terry Godbey and wife Amie of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters, Patricia McComb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Nancy Kay Thompson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and two grandchildren, Dustin Godbey and Sapphira Godbey.
Pallbearers are Terry Godbey, Michael Godbey, Dustin Godbey, and James Damron.
Prior to the service, the family will visit with friends starting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
