Reid was born on October 23, 1944, in Baxter to Fred and Florence (Crawford) Butler. He grew up in Baxter where he attended Baxter High School, graduating with the class of 1963. He married Linda Luing on August 22, 1964. Of this union 3 daughters were born. Early in his career, Reid worked at the Baxter Feed Mill. Later in life, Reid owned and operated the bar in Baxter called "Cheers Too!". He enjoyed socializing with all his Baxter friends and the grandkids loved playing at Papa's bar. Before retiring in 2010, Reid returned to truck driving for Crow Seed Corn in Nevada and for Newton Feed Center. He was a member of the Baxter Congregation Church and the Baxter Masonic Unit Lodge #520.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, stock car races, collecting miniature feed trucks, listening to music, watching Iowa Hawkeyes, watering his flowers, and bird watching. Reid loved everything about Baxter and the community.
