Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurley Funeral Home - Pleasanton on Jul. 7, 2025.
The scriptures tell us that to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. (II Corinthians 5:8) It is with joy that the Esquivel family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Ricarda Regalado Esquivel, on the evening of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, while a resident of The Heights Rehab Center in
Pleasanton, Texas at 94 years of age.
Ricarda, affectionally known throughout the community of Christine as "Aunt Rickie" was born on February 7, 1931, to parents, Antonia Pacheco and Ysidro Regalado, Sr., in Christine, Texas. She was the youngest of eight children and was the last to pass from this earth to her Heavenly home.
Ricarda lived the life she always wanted, to be a servant to her Lord in every capacity that she could find to serve. She worked endlessly with the Vacation Bible School program at Christine First Baptist Church for many years. Overseeing the kitchen to ensure that all the children were fed physically and spiritually was indeed her greatest achievement. For years she was in charge of ensuring that the church house where the family attended was spotless and always presentable for any situation that arose. In her weekly duties to keep the church house in order she often recruited the services of family members to assist.
Ricarda had a beautiful soprano voice and used her God given talent to sing in the church choir and later in the church's Bluegrass band known as The Grace Notes. Knowing that her life on earth was soon to end Ricarda laid in bed singing her favorite hymns, serving her Lord towards the end. She will forever be a blessing to her family and community.
Ricarda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse who passed in August, 2020; son, Robert (Bobby) who passed in March, 2009; as well as her seven siblings; Georgia Martinez, Genoveva Esquivel, Conception Montelongo, Anastacia Flores, Nicasio Regalado, Fidel Regalado, and Ysidro Regalado, Jr., including countless uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Ricarda is survived by her only daughter, Olga Esquivel, two sons, Richard Esquivel, and Murray (Velia) Esquivel, all of Christine. Also surviving her is her daughter-in-law, Josie Esquivel, and grandchildren, Brandon Esquivel, Mindy Marie Esquivel, Kimberlee Rose Esquivel, Kamryn Esquivel, Hendrix Esquivel, and Ricardo B. Ortiz, Jr., including her favorite artist American singer, song writer and producer who served as a judge during season 11 of the musical hit show, The Voice, Charlie Puth, who she referred to as her adopted nephew.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Brandon Esquivel, Ricardo Ortiz, Jr., Mindy Esquivel, Kimberlee Esquivel, Delia Bazan, Danny Pacheco, Arturo Lopez, Carlos Lopez, George Esquivel, Louis Esquivel, Calistro Esquivel, Jr., Larry Esquivel, Albert Villarreal, Joe Esquivel, Donnie Pacheco, Ernesto Casas, Rosario Ortega, Pete Martinez, Robert Regalado, Jessie Regalado, David Flores, Jeffrey Cunningham and Charlie Puth.
Services are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home of
Pleasanton, Texas, with graveside services to be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am, at Christine City Cemetery, with her family Pastor Michael W. Bender officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be given to the Christine Homecoming Society, P.O. Box 353, Christine, Texas 78012. The Society works very hard to earn funds to make college scholarships available to local students to further their education.
