Richard N. Hackl, 83, of Muscoda passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Monday, June 9, 2025. Rich was born on September 7, 1941 to Frank and Alice (Victora) Hackl. He spent his youth in and around his parent's businesses. After graduating from Muscoda High School, Rich joined the Army where he served from 1959-1962. After returning home, he worked for his family's excavation business. Rich married the love of his life, Dorothy Stanek, on June 18, 1966. He took over the family excavation business in 1968, after his father's death. Rich and Dorothy operated the business from that day forward, making tweaks and changes to stay current.
Rich was a very hard-working man, a trait he passed on to his family. He had a quick wit, huge smile and a lively spirit. He was not afraid to speak his mind and maybe throw in an interesting expletive now and then. He was extremely proud of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He liked to show his love by joking, teasing, and being there for family and friends.
Rich generously volunteered his time to the Muscoda Fire Department from 1962 until his death. He served 36 of those years as Chief. His early years with Muscoda Fire were spent on the water fighting team. The many trophies they won, the comradery, joy and fun from this activity was remembered fondly. Rich enjoyed riding his Harley and camping on the Mississippi River with Dorothy.
Rich is survived by his loving family:
Wife, Dorothy;
Son Jeffrey (Judy) Hackl of Muscoda,
Daughter, Jeannie (Kraig) Kinney of Richland Center,
Son Jon Hackl of Muscoda;
Grandchildren: Benjamin (Brianna) Hackl, Zakary Hackl, Kloie Kinney, Max Kinney;
Great-granddaughters: Emersyn and Andi Hackl;
Many other relatives and friends.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Alice, brothers Frank Hackl, Jr. and Jerry Hackl and an infant sister Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 12:00 PM, with military rites to be provided by the Muscoda American Legion Post 85. Burial will be held in St. John's Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at St. John's Gym from 9:00 AM until the time of the departure to the church at 11:45 AM. The family suggests memorials in Rich's name be directed to the Muscoda Fire or EMS. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
