Richard Akers Nov 8, 1943 – July 11, 2025
Richard "Dick" Akers proud Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather of Albany, Ohio has passed away at Hospice of Miami County in Troy, Ohio.
He was born in Bath County, Kentucky in 1943 to his parents Earl and Susan Akers.
Dick was a devoted and loving husband and later caretaker to his "most beautiful girl in the world" Eydie Akers. They were married for 62 years until her passing in February of 2024.
Dick was known for his entrepreneurship, devotion to family, an extremely giving spirit, his gardening skills, his story telling, and tough grit. He was also an accomplished Water Ski Show performer and Champion Frog Jumper.
He is survived by his sons, Greg Akers (Sheryl) of Washington Twp, Ohio, Brian Akers (Laura) of Weston, Florida and daughters Kim Train (Doug) of Troy, Ohio and Karissa Hept (Corey) of Tipp City, Ohio who will all dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them.
The pure pride and joy of his life were his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was the biggest fan of everything they did and they cherished him. His Grandchildren are Jesse Akers (Tierney) with Great Grandchildren Amirah, Cora, and Cooper. Jackson Akers. Emily (Steve) McMahon with Great Grandchildren Hunter and Peyton. Joshua Akers (Leslie) with Great Granddaughter Eloise. Cody Akers (Taylor), Ashlyn Akers (Joey Davis), and Morgan Akers (Adrian Alsina). Carly McGuirk (Eli Sabins), Jack McGuirk, Mike McGuirk, and Kyle McGuirk. Shelby Hept (Allen Murray), Willy Hept (Kali Freeman), Lilly Hept and Eddy Hept and Marissa Karambelas (Chase Kroplin).
He is survived by his Sister Mary Hannon, Sister Lana Adams, Brother Roger Akers, Brother-in-Law Richard Grow, Brother-in-Law Mike Meek, Sister-in-Law Mendy Meek Abrahamson and Special Niece Daphne Metts along with a large host of nieces and nephews and friends. He is also survived by his loving angel of a caretaker Carolee King and his Best friend of nearly 70 years, Roger Mace.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Susan Akers, Brothers Ed Akers, Daniel Joseph Akers, and David Akers. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Sharon Akers, Erma Alexander, Emma Grow, and Bettie Allman.
Dick and Eydie will be interred together at a very special place in their hearts alongside their twin infant sons, Putnam Chapel Cemetery in Vinton County.
Visitation is Thursday July 17, 2025, 12-2:00 P.M. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
