Richard M. Cadwallader, 99 formerly of West Salem went to be with the Lord on October 7, 2025 in Porter, Maine. He was born September 17, 1926, in Akron, Ohio the son of Raymond W. and Eva (Theiss) Cadwallader. He leaves sons: Mark R. Cadwallader of West Salem, Ohio, Joseph L . Cadwallader and Bonny of Ashland, Ohio, William T. Barnes and Kris of Queensbury, New York, step-son, Robert E. Starcher and Cathy of Byron, Georgia, a brother; Donald Cadwallader, sisters; Priscilla VanOosten, Marcia Adams and Mary Lou Sellars, nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and a significant other; Margaret Freese Barnes Heath of Maine.
His wives; Betty Lee (Wellman) Starcher Cadwallader and Adalou (Olderman) Glenn Cadwallader, parents and a sister; Theresa Cadwallader died previously.
Richard was a farmer and long-distance truck driver for many years. After retirement he enjoyed presenting over 400 hour-long programs of singing and reading at the Assisted Living and Nursing Home. He served his church diligently.
Richard served for two years in the army, in both the 98th and 25th division stationed in Japan, during WW II.
Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday October 25, 2025 at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Dale Herman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. Matteson Funeral Home is honored to serve Richard’s family and community.
