Funeral Services for Dr. Richard "Dick" Campbell, 85, of Springtown, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Lilley officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Dr. Campbell died Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2025, in Azle, Texas while enjoying the quiet life.
Richard John Campbell was born on October 11, 1939, in Syracuse, New York to E.V. and Alice Campbell. Life is an adventure. That was how Richard Campbell lived his life. While growing up, Richard, his parents and his baby sister Ann lived in quite a few states as in Florida and Texas. He shared a many of stories on his adventures that he had. From talking about the times in school that he wasn't allowed to talk to his own sister; to all the cars that he drove to the times he would love to fish. Traveling always made him smile. One of his many chapters within his life, he studied at the University of North Texas which then was called North Texas Teachers College. He was accepted into the dental program at Loyola University in Chicago. Once he graduated, he was inducted into the United States Army as a Captain where he served while practicing Dentistry. After leaving the Army, Richard settled in
Athens, Texas with then his wife Dollie and their children, Tommy, Donna, and John. He had bought the practice from the widow of the late Dr. Pruitt in the early 70's and continued to practice before retirement in Rockport with then his wife Peggy. Richard and Peggy had an adventurous life. They loved fishing, traveling, and diving. Always on the go and enjoyed living life. Richard was a member of the Athens Breakfast Kiwanis Club and served in various leadership roles. He was a member of the Dental Associations both locally, Regional and State. After Hurricane Katrina he volunteered his time and professional services for the victims that needed dental care as well as volunteered with Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler to provide dental work for those in need. Richard will be remembered as a loving and devoted Husband, Dad, Uncle, Friend, and the best Dentist ever!
He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife Peggy and his sister Ann Chapman.
Richard is survived by his three children, Tommy Campbell and his wife Debbie of Springtown, Donna Sims and husband Tony of Carrollton, and John Campbell of Rockport; his current life partner Judy Loyd; his niece, Judith Parker and husband David of Plano; nephew, Guy Chapman and fiancée Jennifer Taylor of Corsicana; his grandchildren, Chase Campbell and wife Candice, Christy Swan and husband Joey, Ariel LaPorte and husband Jeffery, and Nathan Sims; his great- grandchildren, Brayson Swan, Tristen Swan and wife Haley, Caleb, Cayden, JT, Justin, and John Jr; his great-great-grandchild, Rowan Swan; his great-nieces and nephews, Chris Parker and life partner Henry Goldberg, Bethany Parker and husband Scott and their daughter, Evelyn, Zachary Parker, and Lauren Chick and husband Austin. The other family members are Debbie Mayfield and her children and grandchildren and Patty Walsh and husband Gary, along with their children and grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Sims, Jeffery LaPorte, Joey Swan, Guy Chapman, Tristen Swan and Brayson Swan.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 1-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
