Richard Dwayne Doop passed away at his home July 3, 2025. Visitation and memorial service will be held for Richard on July 18, 2025 at Rude's Funeral Home in Bookings, SD. Visitation at 12:00-1:00 PM and Memorial Service at 1:00 PM.
Richard was born on January 29, 1929 to Omar and Gertrude Doop. Richard and his siblings grew up on their family farm at Oakwood State Park.
Richard was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Phelps on April 30, 1954 in Arlington, SD until her passing 2023. To this union they had two daughters Cindy "Penny" and Connie. Richard worked at the Phelps Farm until he moved to Bruce, SD and began working for Montgomery Trucking where Cindy "Penny" would love to go with him wherever his semi was scheduled to go. After the trucking company closed, he started working for Bruce Coop as a mechanic/branch manager until he retired in 1991. This is when Richard and Joyce became winter Texans and enjoyed two decades in the warm weather during the winter months. They also moved to their home on Lake Poinsett where he shared his love of fishing with his family. During his life, and when he had time, he loved working on his farm near Lake Poinsett, hunting, and just maintaining its beauty. Richard also was a volunteer for the Bruce Fire Department for 30 years.
Richard is survived by his children, Cindy "Penny" Berrish and Connie (Tim) Lemke. Grandchildren, Brandi (Mark) Kaml, Holly Lemke, Ashley Lemke, Trey Lemke and Joey Murphy. Great grandchildren, Brittanie Reiter, D.J. Reiter, McKenna Kaml, Oakley Murphy, Eleanor Kay Rose Murphy and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce. Parents Omar and Gertrude, sisters, Polly, Virginia, Delores, and Dorothy, brothers, Dale, Roger, Harley, Gordon, Gilmer and Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bruce Fire and Rescue.
