Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31 from 6-8pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1st at 11:00 am at Kitt Swamp Christian Church in Askins and burial will follow at Vanceboro cemetery.
Richard was born on May 6, 1935 in Vanceboro to Fred and Mattie Gladson. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He married Hattie Buck on June 29, 1957, and together they shared 68 years of marriage.
After marriage, Richard and Hattie moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Richard served in the United States Air Force for four years. After serving in the Air Force, Hattie and Richard returned to Vanceboro, and Richard worked as a supervisor for Naval Air Depot at Cherry Point for 35 years. Outside of work he enjoyed the beach, fishing, golf, watching basketball, and helping Hattie take care of their beautiful yard.
He is survived by his wife Hattie, his children, Lisa Clark of Durham, Kim Lee and husband Stacy, of Connecticut, Richard Gladson Jr. and wife Laura of Ayden, grandchildren Lindsey Georgas (Peter), Joe Clark (Anna), Jennifer Clark, Jenna Lee, Abby Lee and Maggie Lee, great grandchildren Madison, Jacob, Cameron, and James.
He is preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
