Richard Holmes Obituary

Richard Wayne Holmes of Lovettsville Virginia passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his steady presence, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Wayne was born on June 21,1941 in Round Hill Virginia to Mabel and Walter Holmes and enjoyed a lifetime in Loudoun County. He married Nancy Hall on June 25,1961 and together they raised their family first in Leesburg and then settled into the Lovettsville community. He worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service in Leesburg, Va. for 31 years. He was a member and active participant of Zion Lutheran Church on Morrisonville Road. Wayne loved camping trips in the RV, his rose gardens & pets (especially the neighbor's mule (Buttercup), going to car shows; working on his Chevrolet truck, and spending time with his family and friends at get-togethers, church events, holidays, and celebrations.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy Hall Holmes, and his two daughters, Chris Holmes (South Burlington VT and her husband Jose Madalengoitia) and Diane Poston (Hamilton VA and her husband, Joseph C Poston) as well as four grandchildren: Andrew Poston, Eva Madalengoitia, Lea Madalengoitia and Amanda Grapes. Wayne was also blessed with an extended family that included cousins, uncles & aunts, his church family, and the many members of his wife's extended family who were such an important part of his life.
A service in remembrance of Wayne's life will be held on Tuesday December 30 at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Morrisonville Road, Lovettsville VA and will be led by Pastor Andreas Armstrong who Wayne considered a best friend. Family and friends visitation will occur immediately prior to the service from 10-11am in the church that morning.
Wayne will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a wonderful husband, dad, grandad, uncle, cousin, and friend.
