Richard Roscoe Pownell, 86, of Romney, WV passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Born on March 26, 1939 in Kirby, WV, he was the son of the late Earl Pownell and Beatrice (Hawse) Pownell. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Pownell. He is survived by his sons, Billy Pownell (Nicole) of Romney, WV, Ricky Pownell (Carrie Ruddle) of Franklin, WV, 5 grandchildren: Emily Bohrer, Sarah Pownell, Phoebe Pownell, Vivian Pownell, Ross Pownell, the mother of his children, Linda Zirk, Donnie Hott whom he raised, and his siblings, Vicky Adams, Karen Colebank, both of Romney, WV and Randy Pownell of Augusta, WV. Richard served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated the BP service station in Romney for many years. He was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church and Clinton Lodge #86, AF & AM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Romney, WV with Pastor Tommy George officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Hampshire Long Term Care, Romney WV for the care they gave to Richard. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Romney, WV.
