Richard Sieg, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 18th, 2024 at the age of 81.

Born on August 18, 1943 in Fargo North Dakota to James and Deloris (Larson) Sieg. He grew up in Moorhead, MN where he graduated from Moorhead High School in 1961. He went on to attend Moorhead State University graduating with a teaching degree in Industrial Arts. On February 15th, 1963 he married Kathleen Hobbs. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1968, where Rick taught until he retired in 2003.

In 1974, Ricky, Kathy and kids left for a two-year adventure to Australia, where they lived in the outback on a large cattle station. Rick taught school, besides industrial arts, he taught music, religion and special education. Upon returning home, they designed and built their dream home out on the OtterTail River.

Rick went back to Moorhead State in 1987 getting his Master’s Degree in special Education where he continued teaching until his retirement in 2003.

In 2019 he was able to return to Australia for a 40th class reunion. Rick, spent 3 weeks reminiscing and adventuring. He said, “it was his last hurrah!"

He had an incredible love for music beginning at a very young age. He would listen to old 45's and teach himself how to play the guitar. He instilled an appreciation for all genres of music to his kids and you will find John Denver playing in any of our kitchens on a Saturday morning.

Rick had a lifelong love of the outdoors and always had a trusty canine companion. He found peace and fulfillment in nature, whether he was hunting in the woods, fishing with his friends, or simply enjoying the beauty of the world around him. His love for adventure also extended to the open road, where often he could be found with the wind in his hair while motorcycling or cruising in his corvette convertible, admiring the changing leaves in Maplewood, and reveling in the beauty and peace it brought him.

Over the years, he gathered a close-knit group of hunting and fishing buddies who shared his passion for the outdoors. Together, they forged countless memories—chasing deer at dawn, casting lines into still waters, and sitting around campfires, while playing guitar and sharing stories that would last a lifetime. If you were ever at Beverly Hills for a fishing opener ’trial’, witnessing this crew hold court will forever be a memory that puts a smile on your face.

Rick always had a strong faith. He was baptized at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead in 1943 and Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church of Moorhead in 1958. He considered Maplewood Lutheran Church his church home, he loved the Sunday drive to get there, the fellowship and wonderful church family he found there. He was not afraid of death, knowing he would rest in the loving arms of Jesus.

He leaves behind his children Angel (Joe) Devorak of Fergus Falls, Jim (Sandy) Sieg of Seminole Florida, and Kit (Delsey) Sieg of Blaine, MN. Sister Sandy (Gary) Littlefield of Loveland Colorado. Grandchildren Joey, Adam, Emma, Hayden, Saona, JT, Sonny; Great grandchildren Dexter, Paxton, Maddyx, Deleanie, Joseph 5th and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother and infant son.

He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in every sunset over a quiet lake, in the rustle of leaves in the wind, and in the stories shared by those who were lucky enough to know him.

Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to share their memories and bid farewell to a man who truly lived.
