Rickie D. Schmitz

Of Otego

Rickie D. Schmitz, 68 of Otego died Tues. June 24, 2025 at home. He was born on Jan. 12, 1957 in Sidney, NY to Clarence & Marjorie (Finch) Schmitz. He married the love of his life, Lisa on Jan. 21, 1978 in Stockbridge, GA. He was predeceased by his son, Rickie Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lisa, 3 children, Sheila & John Nolan, Unadilla, Craig & Christin Schmitz, Masonville, Stacey & Ryan Liberatore, Gilbertsville, 8 grandchildren, Alyssa (Steven) & Aiden, Lillie, Macy, Abby & Collin, Landon & Levi, his siblings, Randy, Ronnie (Elsa), Rusty (Kim), Rodney, & Robin (Jamie), and several nieces, nephews and cousins and his best friends, his side kicks, "Tundra & Molly".

He was an operator with Colbeskill Stone, enjoyed raising beef cows, an avid outdoorsman, loved his grandchildren, who were his entire world. Anyone that was lucky enough to know Rick personally, knew that he was a man of few words, with a smile that lit up the room, and a laugh that was contagious. On any given sunny day if you drove by his house, you would see him mowing his lawn, playing fetch with his dog, or playing with his grandkids. He was a simple man who didn't need much in life but his family, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Rick will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be made at: www.wmaddenfh.com. Arrangements by the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main Street Unadilla. A MADDEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.
