Ricky Lawan Evetts age 65 of Sentinel, OK passed away surrounded by his loved ones on July 12, 2025, at OU Medical in Edmond, OK.
The youngest of seven children, Ricky was born March 28, 1960, in Sentinel, OK to Joe and Jeraldine Moore Evetts. He graduated from Sentinel High School in 1978. He is survived by his wife, Joy Dale, of the home; two stepsons, Derek Earls of Hobart, OK and Nicholas Tate of Juneau, Alaska; and one stepdaughter, Shelby Hamlett and husband Alan of Gotebo, OK; grandchildren Presley and Dillen Earls and Ledger, Traeden and Westen Hamlett; brothers Donnie Evetts and wife Dee Ann of Sentinel, OK, Jimmy Evetts and wife Virginia of Cordell, OK, Larry Evetts and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, OK, Tony Evetts and wife Connie of Sentinel, OK and Jackie Evetts of Sentinel, OK, Aunt: Jenell Mercer, New Braunfels, TX, many nieces and nephews that thought the world of their Uncle Ricky, and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Jeraldine, grandparents Baxter and Virgie Evetts and Garland and Eva Moore, one brother Jesse Dwayne, one stepson Dillen Hall, and one nephew, Cheyenne Evetts.
Ricky loved to rodeo, getting on his first bull at age 12 but due to a car accident in high school his rodeo career was cut short. Over the years he found himself going with friends to rodeos. World Champion Bull Fighter Rex Dunn told him "You need to find a job associated with rodeo if you're going to keep hanging out at the events." That following spring he enrolled in a Hastings, OK rodeo announcing school and announced his first rodeo Labor Day weekend 1989. Over the years he announced countless rodeos, being part cheerleader, part entertainer, and part analyst from his perch atop the arena. He had a passion for announcing rodeos with his gift of gab. He encouraged many to follow their dreams in the sport of rodeo. He also worked at a boot and saddle shop in Mustang, OK, and ran R-E boot and saddle shop in Cordell, OK. Ricky will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.
