It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Rita Ann Sonnier, who left this world on June 28, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on October 10, 1951, in Jennings, Louisiana, Rita was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
She cherished her family and loved them deeply, instilling strong values of faith and love in all who knew her. Rita embraced life fully, finding joy in fishing for perch and nurturing her garden in her spare time. Her dependable nature and strong will made her a guiding light for her loved ones. She had a special bond with Jesus, holding her faith close to her heart throughout her life.
Rita leaves behind her daughters, Christina (Jonathan) Carlin and Delores (Chad) Ardoin; son, Dalton Sonnier, Jr.; step daughter, Donna (Jeff) Crawford; her brother, Wilson (Cindy) Deshotel; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Tyler Sloane, Paige Sloane, Rick (Alyssa) Ardoin, Ashley (Thomas) Trapp, and Destiny Sonnier; and step grandchildren, Symone (Will) Autrey and Welton Black . Her presence will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday July 1, 2025, at Miguez Funeral Home beginning at 3:00 PM and will continue until 8:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM in the chapel on Tuesday. Visitation will resume on Wednesday July 2, 2025, 8:00 AM until the time to depart for church at 1:30 PM.
Rita's Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church on Wednesday July 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Dalton, in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Sonnier, Sr.; her parents, Wilmer and Mazie Deshotel; son, Galen Sonnier; Siblings, Larry Deshotel, Floyd Deshotel, Carlton Deshotel, Loris Spears and Janie Bourne; and a grandchild, Kaitlyn Sloane.In this difficult time, we invite all who loved Rita to come together and celebrate her remarkable life. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
