Robert Henry Avers, age 90, of Pickerington, OH, passed away peacefully with this family by his side on July 2, 2025. He was born March 17, 1935 in Elliston, OH, to the late Albert H. and Anna (Smearsoll) Avers. Robert (Bob) attended Soloman Lutheran Parochial School in Woodville, OH, and graduated from Woodville High School in 1953. He attended Solomon Lutheran Church, where he was president of the Luther League. He received his Bachelor's Degree in business administration and economics from Capital University in 1957, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Upsilon and the Commerce Club. He proudly served in the United States Army Counter Intelligence Corps of the 513th Military Intelligence Group in Offenbach, West Germany from 1958 to 1960. His entire 43 year career was dedicated to Capital University in Bexley, OH, where he served as Admissions Counselor, Director of Placement and Personnel, Director of Career Counseling and Placement, Acting Director of the Physical Plant, Advisor to KSU, and ultimately as Director of Personnel. Bob was a longtime member of the Bexley/Berwick Kiwanis Club and served as President and as Club Secretary for many years. As a longtime member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, he served as Property Committee Chair and on Church Counsel. After his retirement, his daily visits to the church ensured his care of the people and facilities of Epiphany. He was known for his infectious laugh and his generous heart, giving of his time and talents to help family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and strangers.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Theodore Robert Avers. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Avers; daughter, Gayle Avers; brother, Paul W. Avers; sisters, Marilyn (Gerald) Buchholz and Shirley (Paul D.) McKinniss; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation hours are 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm on Thursday, July 10, and from 10-11:00am on Friday, July 11, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington, OH, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am at the church. Interment will be at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, OH.
