Mr. Bobbitt, 90, of Alexandria, entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Regency House of Alexandria, LA.
Robert Thurman Bobbitt was born on January 5, 1935, to Christian and Rosa Lee Bobbitt. His hometown was Center, Texas. He was one of thirteen children; he had four brothers and eight sisters.
In July 1959, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served until July 1963. In 1966, he joined the United States Navy Reserve and served until March 1984. He enjoyed attending Naval reunions long after he was retired.
He worked at Texaco Chemical for over thirty years as a Top Operator.
In the early 1980's, Bob met Johnnie Chandler. They were married in October 1994, and settled in Center, Texas, where they built a new house on Bob's farm property. He served as President of the Bobbitt family reunion for many years. They became members of Center UPC, where they made lots of cherished friends and Bob served on the church board. He raised cattle on his farm and enjoyed the country life. As they aged, it became apparent that they needed to be closer to medical care. So, in 2007, they moved to Alexandria, Louisiana, to be closer to Johnnie's family.
In Alexandria, they became members of the Pentecostals of Alexandria, where Bob served as an usher for many years. He also became a member of the Lions Club, where he enjoyed fundraising activities and monthly meetings. He made many friends both at church and in the Lions Club. He was active in both until his health began to fall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Rosa Lee Bobbitt; the mother of his children, Wavha; two step-sons, Jimmy Chandler and Darrell Chandler; and twelve siblings.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife, Johnnie Belle Bobbitt of Alexandria; three daughters, Rhonda Sue Bobbitt Vercher of Galveston, Texas, Angela Kay Bobbitt Bennett of Lake Charles, and Camille Christine Bobbitt Girouard (Kent) of Cedar Park, Texas; one step-daughter, Kathy Kupperschmid (Robert) of Alexandria; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Friday, at 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
